March Price Rises for HCFC Refrigerants

Beginning January 2012 the latest reduction in import quota for HCFCs commenced. This time the 30 ODP tonne decrease has had a significant effect with the quota falling approximately 40% from 70 to only 30 ODP tonne.

As expected, limited availability, reduced worldwide production, and increasing raw material costs are resulting in rapid price increases. Whilst delaying our next price increase as long as possible Actrol must now advise that a 15% rise will occur 1st March 2012 for all HCFC refrigerants.

HCFC pricing update for December 1st 2011

Australia is nearing the critical period of its phase out of HCFC refrigerants and 2012 will start with a further reduction in import quotas.

December 1st 2011 sees the next price increase, this time a rise of 12% for all HCFC refrigerants and refrigerant blends, the only exception being R123 which will rise by 25%. Importantly, we continue to advise you to be very cautious when quoting future work, as the price of refrigerant in general continues to be volatile with the expectation of sharp rises to come. NSW, SA and Vic Roadshow Wrap Up

The NSW, SA and VIC round of Road Shows have recently been completed and were a resounding success.

First stop on the NSW leg was the nation’s capital where there was a good turnout of industry participants eager to see what’s new in the HVAC&R world. Next up was windy Wollongong, then on to the Newcastle Jockey Club and bringing up the tail was Tamworth attracting the largest crowd of all. Several customers drove many hours to make the show, some from as far out as Moree, displaying how eager customers are to engage with the industry.

Not long after the success of the NSW leg the Road Show was off again, rolling into Victoria with a bustling night in Mildura. The show then made it’s way across the South Australian border into Adelaide and then on to Mt Gambier. By now the suppliers and Actrol staff were working as a well-oiled unit erecting and packing the show each night. The show finished with a bang in Bendigo, capping off a successful few weeks on the road.

Next up is the Tassie Road Show starting in Devonport of the 15th of November, Followed by Launceston on the 16th and finishing in Hobart on the 17th. Look forward to seeing you at the show!

Queensland Roadshow Wrap Up

“Awesome show!”, “Great to have the opportunity to ask questions to so many product experts in the one place”, “It’s great to see the industry come together in our town”, “Well done Actrol for supporting regional Australia”.

These are just some of the comments made by the many visitors to the Queensland leg of the Actrol Road Show ‘11. The turnout at each of the shows was strong, indicating that demand for these types of events remains strong.

First up the show rolled into Rockhampton, then on to Mackay, Townsville and finishing up in Cairns. All in all the truck travelled over 3500km, attracting visitors from far and wide with many travelling hours to make the show.

Actrol set-off with an 8 tonne truck ‘packed to the gunnels’ with interactive supplier displays. A large team of Actrol’s National, State and Local staff attended, including Actrol’s new Managing Director David Willett. Over 15 suppliers also made the journey, ensuring visitors would see the latest and greatest that is on show in the industry whilst having the opportunity to ask questions and maybe even pick up a tip or two along the way.

One leg down, three to go! Next up the road show makes its way through NSW, starting off in Canberra on the 19th of September, then on to Wollongong on the 20th, Newcastle the 21st and finishing up in the Country Music Capital Tamworth on the 22nd.

Actrol’s Road Show ‘11 will then venture throughout Victoria and South Australia in October, with the final leg making its way through Tasmania in November.

Big Blu Competition

Actrol in conjunction with Refrigeration Technologies recently held a Big Blu competition focussing on leak detection. Contestants simply had to answer four questions regarding leak detection to go into the draw to win one of four Navman GPS units.

The questions were based on information contained in the popular Refrigeration Technologies Big Blu booklet available from all Actrol branches.

Actrol at ARBS 2010

Once again Actrol was the talk of ARBS. The Actrol stand was the central meeting point for everyone at ARBS with the stand buzzing with people coming from everywhere to get their free coffee, chocolate and even giant lollipops this year.

The Actrol event held on the Monday night of the exhibition was a huge hit with all that attended. Acts including a cabaret dancing group and the hypnotic powers of Steven Spellmaster had the crowd in stiches. Special guest MC Tom Williams was busy having photos with all that attended and was mingling throughout the crowd during the night.

Actrol would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who visited us at ARBS 2010. If you didn't get the chance to make it to the stand this year make sure you do when ARBS returns to Melbourne in 2012.

Actrol Pedal Power

At the recent Green Cities 2010 show a the Pedal Power Generator Race was held to demonstrate how much energy it takes to power 6 laptop computers.
The race pitted four person teams against each other to see who could generate the most power in ten minutes.
The Actrol team was made up of Michael Kanizay (IT Manager), Wayne Doherty (Eastern Refrigeration), Glenn Tournier (VIC Operations Manager) & Adrian (Ace) Cameron (Preston Branch).

Finishing a very respectable third out of thirty eight teams and only a 1.4 Whrs behind second and 9 Whrs behind the eventual winner, who is a professional cycling team.
Despite falling short of the 5,000 Watt Hours needed to power the laptops it proved how hard it is to create energy and why energy efficiency is so important.

Congratulations to the guys and everyone who took part on a great effort!
