Prime Prime Refrigerant
Prime Refrigerant R123 is a single component HCFC refrigerant (Dichlorotrifluoroethane) replacing R11 as the refrigerant of choice for air conditioning systems and centrifugal chillers. Despite its very low GWP it is still a HCFC with an ozone depleting potential and is therefore being phased out in Australia. HCFC's are commonly accepted as having an overall detrimental effect on the environment through both their ozone depletion potential and global warming potential. Exceeding the requirements of the Montreal Protocol, a phase out was implemented in Australia under the Ozone Protection and Synthetic Greenhouse Gas Management Act 1989. From 2018 the import of HCFCs was banned in Australia except for only a minor quantity.
