Prime Prime Refrigerant
The Prime Refrigerant R408A is a blend of HCFC and HFC refrigerants introduced to retrofit R502 in medium and low temperature refrigeration applications. Its composition is made up of HFC-125 (7%), HFC-143a (46%), HCFC-22 (47%). HCFC's are commonly accepted as having an overall detrimental effect on the environment through both their ozone depletion potential and global warming potential. Exceeding the requirements of the Montreal Protocol, a phase out was implemented in Australia under the Ozone Protection and Synthetic Greenhouse Gas Management Act 1989. From 2018 the import of HCFCs was banned in Australia except for only a minor quantity. NOTE: GWP calculated on the Australian Government calculator for the Import Levy and Equivalent Price for SGGs and SGG/HCFC blends (Version 1.1, 24 August 2012).
